Upon successful completion of a state certification examination, individuals aiming for licensure as a CERTIFIED contractor are obligated to fulfill an initial licensure application form. Out-of-state licensees aspiring for licensure in Florida who have not passed Florida’s certification examination should refer to the Certification by Endorsement application. Prior to submission of this application, it is imperative to confirm passage of the state certification examination. As per board regulations, it is mandatory to procure the license within 4 years of receiving the examination score. For application for the state certification examination, please refer to the Initial and Retake Examination application.
Application Requirements:
EXAMINATION: Prospective CERTIFIED contractors, with the exception of Swimming Pool Specialty contractors, must undergo and pass a state certification examination initially.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Applicants are mandated to possess four years of experience or a blend of college and experience. This does not encompass all experience/education requirements; please consult the instruction page of the application for comprehensive details.
FINANCIAL/CREDIT: Applicants are obligated to furnish evidence of financial stability and responsibility by submitting credit reports for both themselves and applicable business entities. Credit reports should entail a FICO derived credit score and affirm a search of local, state, and federal records.
MILITARY VETERANS: Military experience may be utilized towards licensure requirements. Complete the Veteran Fee Waiver and Military Service Verification Form and submit it alongside the licensure application. Military veterans, their spouses, and Florida National Guard members may be eligible for fee waivers, reimbursements, and/or discounts.
FINGERPRINTS: Applicants must undergo a background check as part of the licensing process. Following submission of the licensure application, fingerprints must be submitted via a Livescan Service Provider registered with FDLE. It may take up to five days for the Department to receive fingerprint results from FDLE. Note that FDLE requires the licensure application to precede fingerprint submission.
INSURANCE: Applicants must affirm acquisition of public liability and property damage insurance as per Board rule stipulations. Additionally, applicants must secure workers’ compensation insurance or an exemption within 30 days of license issuance.
FEE: Payment of the stipulated fee as indicated in the application is mandatory. Make checks payable to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Military veterans, their spouses, and Florida National Guard members may be eligible for fee waivers, reimbursements, and/or discounts.
AGE: Applicants for certification must be at least 18 years old.
